First Performance Data of the MacBook Air with M1

Apple was already advancing in its last keynote that the first Macs with ARM processors designed by them were going strong. In the comparisons with their competition they spoke of a brutal difference, but that is even with their own computers with Intel chips. Now the first benchmark of the MacBook Air with M1 has been leaked and we have been able to verify that the Californian company was not lying.

MacBook Air with M1

The best single core Macs

Geekbench , a popular website that contains the performance data of most electronic equipment, has already recorded the first metric of the new MacBook Air that Apple introduced last Tuesday. The surprise of this comes both in its analysis in single core and in multi core, since in both cases it surpasses any MacBook released to date. Even the very powerful Mac Pro with Intel Xeon manages to unseat the MacBook Air in single core.

If we also compare them with Apple’s own processors such as the A14 that the iPhone 12 has, there are also notable differences, since those achieved scores of 1,584, still far from the 1,714 of the M1 in the MacBook Pro , but also of the 1,687 of the ‘Air’.

Precisely in the performance comparison of the ‘Air’ and the ‘Pro’ we can see that the differences are minimal. In fact, for practical purposes they have the same components, although the fact that the cheapest model comes without a fan means that it has had to be ‘coated’ by software in order to avoid possible overheating, offering in any case a more than optimal performance. .

Mac de Apple - rendimiento

This is just the beginning of a new era

It is true that it is necessary to thoroughly test the equipment, observe how they behave on a day-to-day basis and check if in the end the transition period for third-party applications complies with what is expected. However, we already have solid evidence that at the power level we are facing something never seen before and that will put Apple chips on a new level that they had never managed to have with Intel chips.

Keep in mind that the M1 processor is the first designed by and for Mac and that despite Apple’s previous experience with its iPhone and iPad, this is a different world. Therefore, improvements will continue to arrive in the M2, M3, M4 and successive processors that the company is launching. We could even see M1X or similar versions with even greater power for more professional equipment such as Mac Pro.

Therefore there is a lot of expectation to be able to see everything. At La Manzana Bordida, both on this website and on our YouTube channel, we will be able to thoroughly test the three new Macs with the firm objective of being able to assess the change from Intel to Apple Silicon. Therefore, we recommend that you remain attentive to all our analyzes.
