Best OLED Smart TV: Models, Features and Prices

OLED TVs are known for their quality, good color reproduction, and of course those deep blacks. Another of the details that is also known about the screens that carry this technology is their high price. Why are they so expensive? Today we are going to explain what OLED technology is, the reason for its price and we are going to collect the best Smart TVs with this technology.

OLED technology: what is it and why is it so expensive?

Best OLED Smart TV: Models, Features

The following OLED define the technology “Organic Light-Emitting Diode”, which in Spanish means ” organic light emitting diode “. It is a technology based on a type of diodes that form a very thin film of organic components. When this film is stimulated with an electrical impulse, these diodes illuminate generating light by themselves.

These panels have a number of positive points compared to “traditional” LCDs:

  • Thinner and more flexible : the screens that can be achieved with this type of technology are thinner than the limit that we know from other technologies. In addition, due to the materials that constitute it, they are more flexible screens than LCDs.
  • Brightness and contrast : as you already know, with these panels you achieve greater brightness, since due to their physics they illuminate themselves. In addition, this allows you to have a greater range of contrast and, therefore, of color reproduction.
  • Better visibility in bright environments : the previous feature also gives them the ability to see better when the light falls directly on the panel.
  • Lower consumption : referring to their own lighting by electrical impulses once again, these panels give us purer black colors by directly turning off the pixels. This characteristic, together with the fact that they do not need an extra source to illuminate them, makes the consumption of OLED screens lower than the rest.
  • Better viewing angle and response time : screens with this technology offer a better viewing angle from any point compared to LCDs that, depending on their quality, can vary by just turning the point of view a few degrees. As with the response time in OLEDs, it is 0.002 milliseconds compared to 2 milliseconds for LEDs. This means that we will not have the known ghosting effect in these panels when there is a lot of movement in the action scenes.

Of course, not everything was going to be good on these screens and they also have some disadvantages :

  • High manufacturing costs : despite the fact that the first OLED displays were launched in 2014, they are still not in many homes today and therefore the number of sales is not too high. This means that manufacturing costs are still high due to low demand. Although little by little we already see, and now we will tell you more about this , how these screens are close to 1,000 euros. So surely, in the coming years, they will end up gaining presence in our homes.
  • Size : despite the fact that the majority of users increasingly demand larger panels, there are still some who prefer smaller ones or who cannot put a larger one in the place they want. Currently, the OLED panels that are most manufactured are those of 55 ″ and 65 ″ (dominating the first). And it will be tremendously difficult for you to find a smaller one.
