RasbianXP: the Linux that Emulates Windows XP on Raspberry Pi

When speaking of the important sector of operating systems , without a doubt one of the protagonists here is Windows, at least in desktop environments. Microsoft software has been with us for many years and has not stopped evolving and growing until the current Windows 10.

Over the years, now seen from a distance, we have come across some versions of Windows more popular and accepted than others. As an example, Windows 7, a version that despite not receiving official support, continues to work on hundreds of millions of computers. This is something similar to what happened a few years earlier with another of the most beloved versions of Windows, we refer to XP .

So you can go back to using Windows XP and remember old times

What’s more, despite its near disappearance due to the past time, Windows XP still has millions of fans worldwide today. All this despite the fact that its official support was removed about six years ago. But with everything and with it this does not mean that everyone is ready to forget what this version of the system meant at the time. It is evident that working in our day to day with a PC based on Windows XP is not the best idea.

This is something that becomes especially evident if we focus on issues related to the security and privacy of our data. However, and thanks to technology, we have other alternatives that will surely delight lovers of the aforementioned XP. The example that we are going to show you in these same lines serves as an example. We talk that we can now test this 2001 operating system through a Linux distro that comes with its most important features. Here, as expected, they include a good part of its visual elements and that reproduce its user interface.

RaspbianXP Windows XP

Specifically we are referring to RasbianXP , the Windows XP based on Linux that is specifically aimed at running on a Raspberry Pi . In this way we will have the opportunity to recall old times and reuse the Windows XP environment quite easily.

Remember the use of XP on a Raspberry Pi

But that is not all, but one of the things that most attract attention from all this, is that RasbianXP can even run Windows software . Obviously it is carried out through an emulator, so there are certain somewhat advanced applications that will not work, or will do so poorly. We must also know that the hardware resources here are somewhat limited, so we cannot go to use high-performance software.

For all that, while Windows XP was withdrawn from the market in April 2014 , many still miss it. Although for the day to day we have to use more modern and safer versions of Windows, surely many will be happy to take a look at the XP environment again.

Of course, currently there are still computers that use XP regularly. But we are talking about somewhat specific old systems in which the update would require new, sometimes unnecessary, hardware.
