Our computer is usually a regular storage place for all our photos. To be able to see them we can use the visualizer that comes by default with Windows, which is the Photos application. But this application is not usually liked by many users, so as an alternative we can choose a program like JPEGView , simple but that will allow us to view and edit all kinds of images.
JPEGView, light and with great editing capacity
JPEGView is a tool with which we can view our photos. It is a very light application as well as powerful but that hardly uses system resources to do its work. In addition, it also allows you to edit the photos we view, allowing you to adjust some parameters such as contrast, sharpness, white balance, perspective and local overexposure.

Supported image format
- Import : JPG, JPEG, BMP, PNG, TIF, TIFF, WEBP, GIF, TGA, WDP, HDP, JXR, PEF, DNG, CRW, NEF, CR2, MRW, RW2, ORF, X3F, ARW, KDC, NRW, DCR, SR2 and RAF.
- Export : JPEG, BMP, PNG, WEBP, TGA, GIF, TIFF
It also has some tools like an EXIF data reader, massive renaming, zoom options, full-screen display and auto-correction functions. In this way, in addition to viewing the photos, we can edit them quickly using any of its functions, without the need to choose other types of programs.
Main features
- Small, portable and fast. It only weighs 512 Kb making it ideal for older computers or with little storage space.
- It includes a high quality precision filter that preserves the sharpness of the images.
- It has basic image processing tools that can be applied in real time during viewing.
- It has a movie mode so that we can play the folder with JPEG files as a movie.
Main features that define JPEGView
JPEGView is a portable application, so no installation is required. This is something extremely useful to be able to run it on any computer from a pendrive or memory card. Once executed, a window with the Windows explorer will appear from which we can select the folder and image that we want. We can also close it and a discreet interface will appear with a black background where it will indicate that we do not have any image loaded and inform us of keyboard shortcuts to paste an image from the clipboard or open a new one. It also has an optional full screen mode, which will allow us to see the images without any distractions.

Most of the controls only appear when we pass the mouse pointer over the window using buttons. These buttons will not be used to scroll images backward or forward, display the first or last image, delete the image, zoom, rotate the image, correct converging lines, and a landscape image enhancement mode. We can also access these controls through keyboard shortcuts that are indicated in parentheses with each function. In case we don’t need to use them, the buttons always remain hidden automatically.

We can also find the image processing controls at the bottom whenever we use the full screen mode. From here we will have access to brightness, contract, saturation, light, medium and deep shadows, color correction, contract correction and the blur mask.

If we right-click on any displayed image, a series of additional options will appear , with which we can change the name of the images by batch, change the EXIF dates, save all the changes, among others. All the images that we edit with JPEGView can be saved as separate files from the original, in formats such as JPEG, BMP, PNG, WEBP, TGA, GIF and TIFF. Likewise, it is also possible to save the changes in the application database, so that we can re-edit it only with JPEGView later, leaving the original image intact.

How to download JPEGView
JPEGView is a photo viewer and editor that is distributed under the GNU General Public License , making it completely free . We can download it from the Sourceforge page . From here we download a zip file that we must decompress. Inside the unzipped folder we will see that we have two folders, one with the 32-bit version and the other with a 64-bit version. We only have to activate the executable that we will find in the folder and the application will start, since it is portable and does not require installation.
It is compatible with Windows in all its versions from XP to Windows 10. Perhaps, we can miss the application’s support since its latest available version, 1.0.37 , corresponds to March 10, 2008.
