When Metroid arrived on the NES in 1986, it caused so much excitement and liked Nintendo players so much that it ended up coining a new genre that had been in the making for a few years: metroidvania. The influence of this saga is such that it is normal to see incredible homemade works by some fans, like this one we come across today: Prime 2D .
What is a demake?

You may have gotten used to hearing the word remake in recent years, which is nothing more than a version of a game “remade” to offer refreshed graphics and updated features. In other words, using the basis of a game from many years ago, we work on a version that respects its essence, but is built on the basis of new tools and current utilities.
Well, as you may be imagining, a demake is just the opposite. The work consists of taking the game to the opposite side, towards the retro, but not for that reason worse quality is achieved. The results can be extremely striking, and like this Prime 2D, it even seems original.
Metroid Prime in 2D
And we say it seems because this work is the work of Team SCU , a group of fans who have been working hard for five years to give life to this spectacular version of the mythical Metroid Prime. Its name is Prime 2D, and the reason for not using the Metroid name can be imagined.
Nintendo has not hesitated to knock down any kind of tribute and modified version of any of its intellectual property, so it would not be surprising if this magnificent interpretation of the Gamecube classic is also forced to disappear from the internet.
You can now download the first demo
For now, the best thing you can do is download the free demo that its creators have posted, a download with which you can recognize many of the locations, enemies and even music from the original game. The game is controlled with keyboard and mouse, since the mouse will be in charge of directing the orientation of Samus’s aim, as was the case in previous versions of Metroid.
The game controls are as follows:
- A key : Move left
- S key : Kneel
- S key (double press) : Morphosphere
- D key : Move right
- Q key : Visual scanner
- Space bar : Jump
- Mouse : Pointed
- Left Click : Shoot, return to viewfinder
- Right Click : Scan Items, Missile
You can download the demo of this Prime 2D directly in the link that we leave you below, and from Metroiddatabase they point out that at the end of the demo, if you wait for the credits to end, you can do something else, since the game does not seem to end .
A joke … very tasteful
The interesting thing about Prime 2D, is that it appeared as a joke for the April Fool’s , where its creators showed a low polygon version of the original Metroid Prime. Luckily, in the end the joke was revealed to reveal the true aspect of the project, revealing its incredible graphics.
