From the Settings app

The first way to know the iPhone has undergone some type of repair is by going to iPhone Settings, General and click on Information. Below, if you have a version of 15.2 or later installed, you can view your service and parts history. In case you have a version prior to iOS 15.2, you can only check if the replacement is listed as Unknown part

  • On iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, and later, as well as iPhone SE (2nd generation), you can see if the battery has been replaced.
  • On iPhone 11 models, you can see if the battery or screen has been replaced.
  • On iPhone 12, 13, and 14 models, you can see if the rear system, TrueDepth camera, battery, display, or rear cameras have been replaced.

In the event that the repair service of the device has been carried out with genuine Apple parts and processes, the “Original Apple part” appears next to the part in question. If your iPhone has connected to the internet after the service, you can touch the piece to check more related information, such as the date of the service.

In this sense, if we can be calm because if the iPhone has undergone a repair , it has been carried out under specialized Apple technicians and complies with all Apple security and quality measures.

Unknown part

If not, the “Unknown Part” message appears if the installation of that part has not been completed or if the part has been replaced with a non-Apple original part, has already been used or installed on another iPhone and it doesn’t work as it should. In the event that the part is unknown, you already know that the iPhone has undergone third-party repairs, and you do not know exactly the actual stand on which the battery is located. Therefore, the screen or battery may display the additional message “Apple has updated device information for this iPhone” . This message means that Apple has updated the device information registered for this iPhone for service and security analysis purposes, as well as to improve future products.

By way of conclusion, remember that even if you buy a second-hand product, in Spain there is a guarantee for said product for a few months, so if you see any damage and want to return it, there is a legal mechanism to restore the purchase.
