Google Assistant “breaks” the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is one of the best smart watches that you can buy right now in Spain. However, ” Google ” has had to arrive to annoy the good work that the Korean firm has done with this smartwatch . And it is that a new update has caused serious problems in the wearable.

We are talking about a device that works with Wear OS , the operating system for this type of accessory developed by Google. At the time of the wearable’s launch, the technology firm promised that the Google Assistant would be available for the Galaxy Watch 4 , and this promise was finally fulfilled last week. But I wish it hadn’t been like that…

Battery and sync issues

And it is that this update that contains Google’s digital assistant is great news, because it finally allows you to have a better assistant than Bixby on your smart watch. This, at least, was what the firm’s customers thought until some of its users discovered a problem that seemed to be the result of the update that put Google Assistant on their watch.

According to several Reddit users, after installing Google Assistant, many Galaxy Watch 4 devices were disconnecting from the phones they were paired with. To make matters worse, attempts to re-pair the affected watch and phone do not work as both devices act as if they have never been connected and do not recognize each other.

Yesterday I updated the Google Assistant feature and have been testing it from time to time. I even used my watch to track a workout this morning. But now my smartwatch won’t connect to my phone.

Apparently the Galaxy Watch 4 unbinds from phones randomly ; without doing anything. The only thing in common that users with this problem have is that they have applied the mentioned update. Since then, the watch randomly disconnects from smartphones no matter what is being done.

I’ve tried restarting both the phone and the watch, updating any apps, turning off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and turning it back on, nothing works.

In addition, there are also complaints regarding the battery life of the clock and this cannot be fixed with a simple reset. In this case the bug comes with the keyword detection, which remains always active for Assistant, which causes the device’s battery to drain quickly. And, to add insult to injury, even with keyword recognition turned on, Google Assistant doesn’t always seem to understand us by saying “Hey Google.”

The solution to reset the clock

Although some claim that the only solution that others have found to work is to completely reset the clock, it is something that is not comfortable at all. If you experience this error and want to try reformatting your device, make sure you have backed up your watch data before starting the process. Then, in the accessory’s settings look for the option to hard reset your Galaxy Watch 4.
