Apple Watch Does Not Link to iPhone: Causes and Solution

The Apple Watch is undoubtedly an essential equipment for many users who save themselves from having to check their notifications on the iPhone. But sometimes this equipment can fail and lose the connection with the iPhone. In this article we explain how you can act in this situation.

How to know if the Apple Watch is linked

In general, when we receive a notification on the iPhone and not on the Apple Watch, it is a sign that the watch is not correctly paired. It is true that this only happens if we have duplicate notifications between both teams. This is why visually we can see on our Apple Watch a witness that tells us if it is connected to an iPhone or not. We can see this in the control center by sliding your finger from bottom to top.

In the control center we have access to activate WiFi, the battery status and also in the upper right corner we will see the silhouette of the iPhone. In the case that the iPhone is in green it will mean that it is paired, but if a red X appears or the iPhone in red and with a line crossing it, it is a sign that it is not paired. This last signal also appears when we visualize the sphere in the upper central part.

This problem may be due to a bug in the Bluetooth connection or a bug in the operating system of both computers. That is why the fastest solution may be to restore the watch completely, although you can try to do something before resorting to this option.

Check connectivity and restart

The first thing to check is that airplane mode is not activated on the iPhone or Apple Watch. To be able to do this check, we simply have to open the control center on each of the devices to deactivate it. You can also try turning it on and off to restart connections.

If airplane mode is not the problem, it is best to restart both the iPhone and the Apple Watch. In the latter case it is really simple since you simply have to keep the side button and slide in the ‘turn off device’ section. With this reset we will make the iPhone look for the Apple Watch again, and this is why we must take into account that the distance between the two must be reduced. The range of the iPhone has a limit so let’s not expect both teams to be paired if there is a distance between them of 400 meters.

Unlink and re-link

If none of this works, you must unlink the Apple Watch from the iPhone completely by formatting it . Keep in mind to save a backup in iCloud from the iPhone to avoid losing any type of information, especially that of Health. To perform the outcome between both devices you will have to follow the following steps:

  1. On Apple Watch tap the digital crown and head to Settings.
  2. Access ‘General’.
  3. Then scroll to the end and click ‘Reset’.
  4. Choose ‘Delete content and settings’ and confirm this action.

At the moment we will see how to restart the clock and a progress bar appears informing us of how much time is left for the formatting to complete. Once this is done, the initial configuration options will appear as if you had taken it out of the box. The process from here to link it is exactly the same as the one you did when you received it in the iPhone’s ‘Clock’ application.
