Since it was released a few months ago, Microsoft‘s new Edge has not stopped gaining followers and users. All this is achieved thanks to the good functions it offers, coupled with high performance, among other things.
In fact, more and more users are migrating from proposals such as Chrome or Firefox to this, both on the mobile and on the desktop computer. This new Chromium-based browser from Google offers the ability to work across multiple platforms and teams.

Edge’s own features that add to your growth
At the same time, it has some very interesting functions such as collections or integrated parental control. To all this we can add the fact that the browser is compatible with most of the extensions used in Chrome . Hence, little by little for many it is becoming the web browser they use on their computers with Windows 10 , among other systems.

In addition, native vertical tabs are expected to arrive shortly, which will revolutionize the work with these elements for many. But of course, as it usually happens with the software solutions we use every day, Edge is not without its flaws. In fact, it may be the case that it fails on more occasions than we would like.
What’s more, these types of failures on Windows-based computers are something that many have become accustomed to over time. The truth is that there are multiple factors at play here, since we are talking about a very large and powerful system. Therefore in this case Microsoft Edge stops responding or hangs from time to time. And of course, due to the widespread use of this type of program, this can become a headache.
How to fix problems we find in Edge
We are already making the use that we are making of the program , crashes and crashes are a real nuisance. Whether for work reasons, or we are playing games or watching streaming videos, these failures do not appeal to anyone. Therefore, below we are going to talk about the main reasons that lead to Microsoft Edge crashing or stopping working in Windows. We will also talk about how to solve the problem in the best way.
Restart Windows PC
As we have seen so many times, sometimes a simple restart of the PC can solve critical problems in a program. This extends to the aforementioned Microsoft Edge running on the Windows 10 operating system. Therefore, if we see that it crashes for no apparent reason, we can click the Start button and select Restart to reboot the entire system.

Clear the program’s cache, history and cookies
One of the most common reasons for the malfunction of browsers in general, are the cache and cookies. For example a corrupted cache can lead to a serious problem. That is why it is almost always advisable to clean it in order to avoid the failures to which we refer. And you have to know that if there is navigation data preloaded in Edge, that can cause the program to slow down or stop responding completely.
Thus, when the web browser does not respond in Windows 10, we can try to erase the browsing history, cache and cookies . If we want, we have to go to the Edge Settings menu and go to the Privacy, search and services option. Next we look for the section on Deleting exploration data and click on the button Choose which ones you want to delete.

Here we can see how independently we find different types of stored data. Therefore we will have the opportunity to choose those that we wish to eliminate from the program. We can choose to leave cookies and cache checked and then click on Delete now. Once this is done, we must restart the program to see if the blocking problems have been solved.
Change search engine in browser
Over the months we have seen that many users reported that the Edge browser crashed when setting Google as the default search engine. Therefore, as a temporary solution we can always change this engine to Bing , Yahoo or DuckDuckGo . This is something that we achieve from the program settings. For this we have to access its configuration. After that we go to Privacy, search and services / Address bar and Search.

We will see that here we can configure the search engine by default in the address bar. Therefore we only have to select a search engine other than Google’s.
Turn off search suggestions
But with everything and with this, in the event that we want to continue using Google as the default search engine, we will have to follow other steps. That is why one of the movements that we can take in this same sense is to temporarily deactivate the search suggestions in the Edge Settings to see if the blocks stop. To do this, the first thing we do is go to the program and open its Settings.
Next we go to the Privacy, search and services section, where we find the Address Bar and Search section. Here we can deactivate the search suggestions in the menu and use Google as the default search engine again.

Disable Edge extensions
Extensions are those add-ons that we install in browsers like Edge but that sometimes can cause us many problems. As we mentioned before, Microsoft’s is developed on Google’s Chromium engine, so it works perfectly with the vast majority of Google Chrome extensions. This allows us to add more features to the interface and functionality of the program. But some of these could be the cause of the browser issues. This may be because they are out of date or have incompatibilities.
In the case that we use many of these extensions, it will be difficult to find out which of them causes the problem. At this point the easiest solution is to disable all of them and then enable only the ones we need one by one. Thus, we go to the program menu and we opt for the Extensions option. Then we can either remove these completely, or just disable them.

Close all Edge processes
It can also be the case that Edge stops responding because the closed tabs do not end the corresponding process. These Edge processes add up and consume a lot of RAM on the PC. This leads to Microsoft Edge crashing over time. Therefore, to solve this, we will have to access the Windows Task Manager.
We do this using the key combination Ctrl + Shift + Esc. Here we will see that a list appears with all the processes and programs running at that moment. Then we will have to look for the main Edge entry and end it with the right mouse button to end all its open processes.
