To start using CustomFolder, the first thing to do is download it from the developer’s website . The application has both an installation version and a portable version . If we choose to use the portable version, this allows us to use the application from any pendrives and external storage units, having the possibility of seeing our personalized folders on any other computer, even if it does not have a Custom Folder, since the personalized icons are saved within each personalized folder. .
From its page we download a zip file, regardless of the version we choose that we must unzip. Both when installing and running the program, we will not have any type of advertising or unwanted third-party software.
Customize your folders with colors, logos and emblems
Contrary to most applications, here we don’t have a file to run to access the main menu of the application. To start using it, what we must do is press Shift + click with the right mouse button on the folder that we want to customize . Next, the Windows contextual menu will appear where we must select CustomFolder. This is something that we can modify from your Settings menu.
Once this is done, the application interface will appear, which is quite attractive and allows us to search for collections and display emblems. Once applied it is possible to delete it or choose any other saved theme with a simple click. In addition, it is translated into Spanish, which facilitates easy handling.
From here we can add emblems to our folder icons, as well as select the preferred position for them. To do this we must select a color and click on the “Show Emblems” button that appears at the top. Another of its outstanding functions is the possibility of adding emblems to the folder icons , so that not only can we choose a style and color for the folder icon, but an emblem can also be added to said library. Once the emblem is added, it is possible to choose its position in the folder, thanks to the fact that it has a 9-position predefined selector that is responsible for aligning the emblem accordingly.

It is also possible to add folders numbered from 3 to 8 in the CustomFolder installation folder, inside a folder that we create with the name of ICON, and within them add icons with names from 01.ico to 24.ico. It is also possible to add .png files of 85 × 85 pixels that must have a name from 61.png to 140.png. These files must go in the installation folder, inside the EMBLEM / 1 folder, so that the application can recognize them when we run it.
Within the interface we find the Settings menu in the shape of a gear. If we click on it, we will have two configuration options, giving us the possibility to uncheck the “Portable mode” box. This checked box allows us to see the custom icons, even if we do not have CustomFolder installed. The other option that we can uncheck is the possibility of using the Shift key together with the right button so that we can execute the program.
