The battle between Samsung and Xiaomi is being very interesting in all price ranges. However, it is possibly in the mid-range, where this fight is more fierce with more than interesting bets on both sides. An example we have in the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 and Samsung Galaxy A71. For this reason we wanted to compare both terminals, to see in detail their main differences and which one is more worth buying if we take into account its current price.
Both mobiles hit the market, in time for the 2019 Christmas campaign. The passage of time has caused their prices to fall, so they can be more interesting than ever. To clear up any doubts about a possible purchase, let’s take a closer look at how both terminals differ , and the advantages of one over the other.
- Xiaomi Mi Note 10
- Samsung Galaxy A71
Screen and dimensions
There are big differences both in the design and in the screen of the two teams. In the case of the Mi Note 10, we see that it has a 6.47-inch screen, with FullHD + resolution and 398 dpi. It also has an aspect ratio and a screen / body ratio of 87.8%. The Galaxy A71 increases this size considerably, reaching 6.7 inches with the same FullHD + resolution and 396 dpi. The aspect ratio varies with a more stretched 20: 9 format and achieves a screen-to-body ratio of 87.2%.

An important difference in design is that the Mi Note 10 houses its selfie camera in a drop-shaped notch , while the Galaxy A71 uses a hole in its screen, a standard already in Korean terminals. It should be noted that the panel of the Xiaomi mobile is protected with Gorilla Glass 5, while the Galaxy A71 has version 3 of the same glass.
If we take a look at the dimensions and weight, the Mi Note 10 is considerably heavier and thicker at 208 grams and 9.7 millimeters thick. The Galaxy A70 better contains these numbers at 179 grams and 7.7 millimeters thick. It goes without saying therefore, which terminal will be more comfortable when it comes to having it in your pocket . The increase in Xiaomi may be due to the integration of a higher capacity battery, since as we will see later, there is a noticeable difference in the mAh.
“Almost” twin processor
Under the hood, we find practically the same bet. We say practically, because they both integrate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730, with the difference that the Mi Note 10 integrates the 730G variant. This chip is identical to the Snapdragon 730, with the only difference that the clock speed increases slightly to 2.4 GHz, to give it a more “gaming” character. The two terminals are sold in Spain in versions of 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory, although the Mi Note 10 has a higher version of 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. However, only the Galaxy A71 can expand this capacity using microSD cards.

If we take a look at its performance in one of the most famous test programs such as AnTuTu, we see that the results of both terminals are almost identical , with the Mi Note 10 exceeding 264,000 and the Galaxy A71 doing the same at 265,000 points. It is an invaluable difference that should not be a decisive factor in opting for one or the other.
Difference in cameras
The Mi Note 10 was the first Xiaomi mobile to sport five cameras on the back. The device mounts a 108 megapixel main sensor, accompanied by two 12 and 8 megapixel telephoto lenses, a 20 megapixel wide angle and a 2 megapixel macro sensor. On the front it has a 32 megapixel selfie camera.

The Galaxy A71 sports a four-rear camera setup, with a 64-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and 5-megapixel macro and depth sensors. Its front camera is also 32 megapixels. Both have LED flash; HDR and the possibility of recording video in 4K at 30 fps or in FullHD up to 240 fps. However, the Galaxy A71 can capture slow motion video at 960fps while the Mi Note 10 records in the same frames but at a maximum of 960fps.
Connections and battery
The two terminals have the main connections, including Bluetooth 5, GPS or NFC, and also maintain the 3.5mm jack for headphones. In addition, they have a fingerprint sensor on the screen. However, in the battery section we find an important difference, with the 5,260 mAh of the Mi Note 10 and its 30W fast charge. The Galaxy A71 also has a generous battery, but in this case of 4,500 mAh compatible with 25W fast charge. Both terminals are currently running Android 10 and their manufacturers’ layers, luckily, both are chosen to update to Android 11. However, it is possible that the Galaxy A71 will benefit from the new update policies of three years of Samsung, and may see more versions of Android going forward, than its rival.

And the prices?
Time has passed and the prices of both devices have been falling. At the moment, we can buy a Mi Note 10 in its 6 GB RAM variant for about 500 euros on Amazon. The Galaxy A71 for its part, can be purchased right now for about 340 euros. It is a notable difference although we have also found important hardware differences in both terminals. The user will have to decide if this price difference compensates with his claims regarding the differences that we have seen.
