The dreaded ” blue screens ” known as BSOD in Windows usually give us enough information about what is wrong with the PC so that we can act accordingly. Today we are going to deal with error 0x0000012B , which sometimes also appears as Stop Error 0x12B: Faulty Hardware Corrupted Page , something that can suggest that there is some hardware component that is causing the problem.
Usually, before the BSOD with the 0x0000012B error appears, the PC starts to run slowly and may even freeze. When the PC for no apparent reason takes much longer than normal to start from the moment we turn it on, it can also be the preamble to this problem.
Error 0x0000012B, what is it and why does it happen?
As a general rule, the problem appears due to the file ntkrnlmp.exe , one of the components of the Windows operating system (sometimes it is even mentioned in the blue screen, sometimes not, and sometimes another file may appear; you know how the screenshots are blue windows).
This file may have been corrupted by improper or unexpected system shutdown, malware, or recent software changes. In addition, it has been detected that Kaspersky antivirus can cause this error, so if you have this antivirus installed on your computer, one of the first things you should do is try to uninstall it to see if the problem stops appearing.
In any case, this 0x0000012B error is usually hardware related , and refers to a single bit error. A single bit error occurs when a bit (a tiny piece of data) is incorrectly changed during a data transmission. Although it sounds like a very small problem, the result can cause the whole system to malfunction, resulting in the BSOD that you can see above.
From here there is good and bad news. The good news is that there are several methods that will help you solve this problem. The bad news is that the error 0x0000012B can also be an indication that some hardware component is failing, and the worst thing is that it does not tell us which one (although it is usually related to RAM ).
How to fix error 0x0000012B
Let’s see what we can do about it to stop having this error. Normally it happens sporadically and preceded by slowness and crashes in the system, but there are times when the PC refuses to start up, so we are going to assess the options we have in terms of hardware (in terms of software, you have the option to remove the antiviurus as indicated above, in addition to of course trying to restore the system).
“Go back” your PC
Since this error is usually related to a hardware data transmission failure, it is not a bad idea to disassemble everything and reassemble it, or at the very least make sure that all your components are perfectly connected. In fact, it is good that at least you remove the RAM from the system (since as we have mentioned before, it is usually related), clean the socket of the motherboard and the connectors of the RAM itself, and reinstall it.
We would recommend that, if you are going to do this with the RAM memory, take advantage and do the same with the graphics card and the storage units, since they are the easiest components to put on and remove and they hardly force you to disassemble anything ( the storage units, unless they are in M.2 format, you will not even have to disassemble them, just disconnect and reconnect the cables).
Check for errors in RAM
Since this 0x0000012B error is usually related to RAM, it is the first component you should check. Here you have several options (and you will find several tutorials in HardZone published on the matter that will help you), but the ideal is to use for example MemTest86.
If this software detects problems in the RAM it does not necessarily mean that it is bad (although it may be, of course). Try changing the RAM of sockets on the motherboard, and if you had any type of Overclock in the processor made through the BIOS, we recommend you return it to factory settings.
Restore the damaged file
As we mentioned at the beginning, it is also possible that all the problem comes from a bad shutdown of the computer or malware and that the file is damaged. To check and repair these problems indicated by error 0x0000012B we recommend you boot the system with a USB or Windows installation DVD, go to advanced options and open the system console to execute the following commands (you can also do it by starting Windows normally, but sometimes it gives problems):
DISM / online / cleanup-image / restorehealth
sfc / scannow
Let the first process finish before starting the next one. They can take several minutes, so don’t despair, it will look for problems with the integrity of Windows files and, if it finds errors, it will repair them automatically.
After doing this, it is also recommended to check the file structure of the disk, with the following command:
chkdsk / r
This process can take a long time as it will scan your entire storage for problems (and repair it automatically). In this case, if you have run it from Windows and not from installation, it will tell you that it cannot be run with the operating system running, and that you want it to start the next time you restart. Answer yes and restart the PC so it can run.
