It’s official, Twitter will resume the account verification process from 2021 . So at the beginning of the year you can reapply for the review that will give you or not that long-awaited blue check. So if you are interested, this is what they will take into account from now on.

Twitter and the blue check

Twitter Will Re-enable Twitter Account Verification

In 2017 Twitter was forced to suspend the account verification process . Several controversies caused by a series of checks that were given to profiles that should never have obtained them, such as that of white supremacists, was the reason for doing so.

Since then, the only thing we knew is that in 2018 they promised to review all the criteria to build a much more solid and clear system. A few months ago it was found that the company was close to reopening the entire verification process, although there was not much more information.

At this time it is not known exactly when they will allow to request the verification of accounts again, only that it will be in 2021 and that there is already a draft of what they will take into account when giving or not the desired check. Moreover, on this draft they are asking users for feedback so that they can finish outlining details that need a final review before starting to be applied.

What has changed in the new verification process

The new criteria now seek a much clearer verification policy than before. That implies, from the outset, having much better defined what type of profiles may or may not be eligible for it.

At the moment, there are six types of Twitter accounts that could request account verification . Those would be official accounts of governments, brands and non-profit profiles, news, entertainment, sports and activists.

In this way, as indicated in that first document with the new criteria, this type of accounts that use the platform correctly to share information, generate community around a cause, etc., could be verified.

Even so, it is to be assumed that an ace will always be kept under the command for certain types of cases that could generate a conflict. For the rest, this feedback or comments that Twitter has requested from users about these new verification policies will be collected until next December 8.

From then on, on December 17 to be exact, the system would already be in its final version and in early 2021 any eligible profile could be eligible for verification. So, if you’ve been behind getting that badge for a long time, you’ll be able to give it a try soon.

How to verify a Twitter account

We recently talked about requesting verification of Twitter accounts. So that once it was resumed, be clear what type of documentation they would ask you or not. Now that we know that it will be active again shortly, a brief review of how to do it, although the criteria and even some data that may be requested could change.

Basically what you should do is the following:

  1. Access from your profile to “Settings and privacy”
  2. Then go to “Your account”
  3. Finally, in “Account Information”

In this section you will see that information related to your profile appears and where it is indicated whether or not it is verified. If you are not, clicking on More information will start the process and you will only have to complete everything that they indicate. If it goes well, in a short time you will receive a response and your long-awaited check will accompany your profile user. If not, calm down. After all, a verified profile is not a guarantee of anything either.
