Nowadays, it is quite common to find phones whose RAM capacity can exceed that of a PC, with 8GB of RAM and even with models with 16 GB of RAM.
With its latest phone, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, and without making much noise, Xiaomi has introduced a specific technology for memory that, until now, we have only seen it in computers, thus thinning the line that separates the world from the mobile telephony from the world of computing
What is RAMDISK technology?
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra is the phone for which many of the firm’s fans in our country sigh. In addition to showing off the best camera seen in a Xiaomi mobile, the best screen, an unparalleled battery or a performance beyond any doubt, the smartphone uses part of the RAM memory as disk storage, which in turn increases performance of the particular application or game that we are running. This is what is commonly known as RAMDISK .
Although the technology already exists for computers and similar equipment, this is probably the first time that we have seen this specific tool for RAM make an appearance on a smartphone. Thanks to this, users of the Mi 10 Ultra can make use of a part of its 16GB LPDDR5 RAM memory as virtual storage. The advantage of doing so is that the speed of RAM, being significantly faster than storage technology, allows you to enjoy even better performance when using certain applications, such as the most demanding games on the Play Store. Speaking in numerical terms, on the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra the RAM speed is 44 GB / s, while the UFS 3.1 read and write speed of its storage is rated at 1700 MB / s.
At the moment this mode is only available at the top of the range of the Chinese brand and to find it you will have to access the option called “Quick Installation” present in Game Center. Here you have to enter test mode to find it. There are currently a dozen games compatible with this technology but it is to be expected that with this tool it will reach more mobiles in the future, there will soon be many more titles compatible with it.
