How to Prevent Amazon Packages from Reaching You on the Weekend

Jeff Bezos has not become the richest man in the world just like that, out of nowhere. Its e-commerce empire, Amazon, grows unstoppably, something that has been further boosted in 2020 due to the pandemic and its consequent confinement.

One of the greatest benefits of Amazon is its extensive catalog of products available both within the platform itself, and through external sellers who use it as a showcase. Another advantage is that since 2016 the company has delivered packages on weekends at no additional cost to users of its subscription service, Amazon Prime. But as always, what for some may seem like an advantage, is a nuisance for others.

Prevent Amazon Packages from Reaching You on the Weekend

Maybe you are from that second group that does not want to be bothered by calling at home during the weekend, thus interrupting your well- deserved rest after a hard week at work. If so, don’t worry, because Amazon allows you to choose whether or not you want to receive deliveries on Saturdays and Sundays and we will explain, step by step, how you can do it.

How to modify the weekend delivery option

Amazon explains on its support site that by default, Saturdays and Sundays are enabled as delivery days in all shipping addresses that we have saved in our account for a specific selection of zip codes, not for everyone.

To change the delivery selection on any day of the week, that is, from Monday to Sunday, you must follow these simple steps:

  • Log into your Amazon account with your credentials (email and password).
  • Next, go to settings (top right on the home page where you put your name).
  • Select My account.
  • Click the “Edit” button below the corresponding address.

  • Scroll through the entire address file until the end and at the bottom you will see a drop-down that says “Deliver on the weekend”, if you click on it you will see two options. “I can receive deliveries any day of the week (Monday to Sunday) or ” Do not deliver on weekends. “
  • Choose “Do not deliver on the weekend” if it is what you want and vice versa if you want to receive. AND

This option can be modified as many times as you want, but remember to have it activated or deactivated according to your preferences before placing an order, because once it has been processed, changes can no longer be made.

What if the package arrives and we are not at home?

If we have forgotten to make the change in the settings when you are already placing the order and the package could arrive when we are not at home because it is the weekend, we have the possibility to instruct the delivery person on what to do with the package if there is no no one to pick it up.

  • In the ” Process order” section, right in the process in which you make the purchase, click on ” Add delivery preferences ” just below the delivery address you have selected. Here an information window will open. You must choose ” Where is a safe place to leave the packages when you are not there “.
  • Now select an option from the available ones (neighbor, terrace, garden, garage) and add additional instructions if necessary. If you choose “neighbor” remember that they must be informed that you are going to share their data with Amazon, that they are going to receive a package that is not theirs and also, their address must be next to yours.

You must bear in mind that not all orders allow this option and that although Amazon ensures that “we will do everything possible to satisfy your preferences”, they cannot guarantee that the transport company will follow the instructions.

Choose a collection point

If you do not want to make use of the above options, you have the possibility of adding a collection point to pick up your package later or as much as you want without anyone knocking on your door, whatever day it is. Amazon has more than 5,700 collection points in Spain (peninsula) and the Balearic Islands. You can choose a collection point when you have added the products you want to buy, in the option ” Process order” and in ” Choose a collection point” .

A new menu will open in which the closest available collection points will be displayed, but you can also search by address, postal code or a slot that is between 38 cm and 122 cm high from the ground (for people with disabilities) . Once you have chosen the collection point, you just have to finish your order by following the instructions on the screen.

Select a collection point as the default

If you want to avoid having to carry out the previous steps every time you place an order, you have the possibility of adding a collection point by default as if it were another address. To do so, you just have to follow these simple steps:

  • Log into your Amazon account with your credentials (email and password).
  • Next, go to settings (top right on the home page where you put your name).
  • Select My account.
  • In the Settings section choose the Add new address option .
  • You will see at the beginning that the menu says ” Or pick up your packages at the collection point that suits you best by clicking here”.
  • If you click on the link, you will enter a new menu that allows you to choose the collection point you want depending on whether you want to select it by address, by postal code or by point of interest.
  • You can do a search in any of these options and once you find the one you want, just select it to add it to your address book by default.
  • Now every time you place an order and display the option to choose an address, the new collection point will appear as one more available alternative.

Pick-up points can be chosen as default delivery addresses or deleted, but it is not possible to select not to deliver to them on weekends as if they were an address. Remember that once you receive the e-mail confirming the delivery of your order at the collection point, you have a maximum period of 14 calendar days to collect it. If that period passes and you have not picked it up, the package will be returned to Amazon and they will refund the money.
