Nintendo’s New Console, the Switch OLED, Is a Disappointment

Nintendo's New Console, the Switch OLED

Nintendo has just announced the new version of its portable Nintendo Switch console. After the Lite version of the console, a smaller model, today the company has presented the new Nintendo Switch OLED that will be released on October 8.

The Japanese company has disappointed all those who expected this new console to be a revolution compared to its predecessor. The new console is not a PRO version far from it, but it is practically the same as the classic one, except for some small changes in its components and in aesthetics.

As for its few novelties, this new version receives its name because it changes the TFT technology of its screen for OLED technology . The screen will have a slight increase in size, going from 6.2 inches to 7. However, the resolution will not undergo any change (1280 × 720) and your games will continue to be viewed at 720p resolution.

Regarding its measurements, the length and height remain the same as in the first version of the console (102mm and 13.9mm, respectively), although this new version will be three millimeters wider, something that is not known. you will come to notice when it comes to playing. Its internal storage has doubled, from 32GB to 64.

Same battery and same graphics processor

Although it only changes the technology of the screen and three millimeters more in width, the console will weigh more, specifically 320 grams (or 420 if it has the built-in Joycon) as opposed to the 297 grams of the Nintendo Switch (398 if it has attached the Joycon).

Although the new version of the console is heavier and a bit wider, this is not synonymous with the fact that it can be on for longer, since the battery life remains exactly the same , with a duration of between four and a half hours. and nine hours. Its graphics card will also remain the same as that of the original 2017 console, the Nvidia Tegra.

New color and Ethernet adapter

It also adds a LAN (Ethernet) connector at its base, something that is an addition that does not make much sense since if this console is characterized by something, it is for its portability, so no cables should be necessary to connect it and that it was enough with a WI-FI connection.

It can only be added that a new color never seen on this Nintendo console will be released in this new OLED version, the color white . All those who were waiting for a PRO version of this console will still have to wait a while.
