It is possible that you have recently installed (or formatted) Windows and there is something wrong with it. Normally, Windows 10 (or Windows 11) install some very basic drivers or controllers to make it “work”. But, surely you notice that your graphics card does not work correctly and the problem , precisely, is the drivers that are installed natively.
Windows is designed so that when you finish installing it, you don’t have to use it. But, the drivers it installs are extremely basic, practically equivalent to tying down the column of a building with duct tape. So we are going to explain how to get the graphics card to work properly.
The graphics card is not working properly
When we install Windows, the operating system integrates a generic driver for the graphics card. This controller is a chestnut, which is intended to make the graph show video and little else. Surely, you notice that the resolution is strange or there are quite annoying flickering while using the equipment. All these problems have their origin in the driver.
NVIDIA, AMD and even Intel have specific drivers for their graphics cards. What they do is optimize performance, improve features, and add extra features that are not in that basic Windows driver. But, in addition, the drivers of the GPU manufacturers include different security fixes.
We can go to download the drivers , as always, to the NVIDIA, AMD and Intel websites . Finding NVIDIA and AMD drivers is much easier than finding Intel drivers. In addition, AMD and NVIDIA offer specific software that will notify us when new drivers are released. These programs also allow you to optimize gaming performance and make other adjustments to graphics card parameters.
So when we install Windows from scratch and we already start the desktop, we will quickly go to download the drivers. It is a really simple process and putting “drivers” and the name of the graphics card manufacturer in the browser is more than enough.
Don’t know who the manufacturer of your graphics card is?
First of all, let me tell you that when we refer to graphics card manufacturer, we are talking about NVIDIA, AMD and Intel. Another thing is the assemblers, which are companies that take these graphics cards and customize them. Some of these assemblers are ASUS, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, etc.
Knowing who the manufacturer is is extremely simple, we just have to follow these steps:
- We right click on the Windows bar
- A menu will open and here we must look for the Task Manager
- Now a window opens and in this, we will look for the Performance tab
- We will see on the left part different elements of our equipment and at the end, GPU will appear, and we will click on it
- Note: In desktops and laptops you may see two GPUs, this is normal, since it takes the one integrated in the processor and the dedicated one. The one that interests us is GPU 1 , which is the dedicated one and the one that will move the games
- It will indicate, at the top right, the name of the graphics card , which can only be AMD, NVIDIA and Intel
- Now that we know what graphics card we have, we go to the browser and write “download drivers MANUFACTURERNAME”
The graphics card manufacturer’s website will always tell us what the latest driver they have released is. We just have to download and install it, something that is quick and simple.
