There was much talk for years about a second generation of the iPhone SE and now that we have it here it is convenient to review what is new. In visual terms, its exterior is very similar to the iPhone 8, although internally it is known to have some new features. What has changed and what secrets does it hold?
Few changes from iPhone 8 to iPhone SE 2020
From iFixit they are dedicated to publishing different device repair guides so that the most handy users are in charge of carrying out these processes, but these disassemblies also serve to check how the equipment is inside. The iPhone SE 2020 has been the last of them to be shown and the truth is that, for better or for worse, it has surprised many.
What stands out most at first glance, just as if we saw it from the outside, are the obvious similarities with the iPhone 8. Without going any further, both have the same camera, although in the case of the iPhone SE we can distinguish some exclusive features that are implemented using software, such as portrait mode. Also the battery is identical, so this component could also be used in both teams without problems.
The Taptic Engine is another element shared by both teams, as is the front and rear casings. Despite the fact that the latter have subtle differences, such as the position of the apple logo, the truth is that they would fit perfectly in both teams. Also the SIM tray or the proximity sensor are identical pieces.
The differences we find are related to the A13 Bionic chip that mounts the new Apple device, unlike the A11 Bionic that carries the iPhone 8. This is something that we already knew beforehand, but that can be seen with the naked eye by disassembling the device. The Touch ID , despite being the same, would not be comparable to the other device for security reasons either. Like the True Tone sensor , which would require programming skills to be able to activate on the other iPhone if it is exchanged.
The benefits are not the same
Despite what was seen in the disassembly, it must be taken into account that this new smartphone really has substantial differences compared to the 2017 iPhone with which it shares a large part of design and components. The reasons to buy the iPhone SE 2020 basically lie in the performance of the processor, which not only manages the autonomy a little better, but is also capable of improving the overall performance of the device with iOS 13 and the other versions that come to it during a few years.
Precisely that processor is also the one that allowed Apple to implement improvements in the cameras through the software despite continuing to maintain the same lenses as in the 2017 phone. Thanks to this, this second-generation iPhone SE is comparable in photography to the popular one iPhone XR launched in 2018 and from which its versatility in this facet was highlighted despite having a single camera in the rear.
