Although they are less and less common, SMS are still present in our lives even though we don’t want to. Apple for several years, allows us to access the text messages of our iPhone on the Mac so that we do not have to depend on our mobile to consult them. In this article we tell you how you can synchronize them.
The truth is that there are many companies that send us codes through text messages for double factor verification and it is something that we should always have at hand. It can be a tedious thing to have to be constantly looking at the iPhone to see if the message in question arrives and that is why we can make use of the Messages application that we have in macOS.
This is an app that at first you can think that it is only used to send iMessage but with a simple adjustment we can synchronize all our text messages through iCloud. Obviously it is important that both the iPhone and the Mac are connected to the same iCloud account so that it works correctly.
Synchronize your SMS with iCloud on iPhone
First of all, we must ensure that we have our SMS synchronized with the cloud on our iPhone. We can do this by following the steps below:
- Go to Settings and click on your username at the top.
- Click on ‘iCloud’.
- Scroll through the menu until you find ‘Messages ‘ and make sure it is activated. If it is not simply you must click on its right side.

And now … enable synchronization on your Mac
Once we have our text messages synchronized with iCloud, we can go to our Mac to make the corresponding download of these. We must take into account that there will be a small ‘delay’ in the reception of the SMS since they first arrive at our iPhone and then synchronize. With this we want to emphasize that you don’t expect them to reach both the iPhone and the Mac at the same time.
To enable synchronization on our Mac, we must follow the following steps:
- Go to the ‘Messages’ application that we can find in the Launchapd.
- In the upper left click on ‘Messages’ and then on ‘Preferences …’.
- Once we are in the preferences, we must select the ‘iMessage’ tab at the top, and check the section that says ‘Activate messages in iCloud’.

Once this is done all the SMS we have on the iPhone will be dumped in this application . If we see that at some point the messages are not synchronized, in the same configuration window we can click on ‘Synchronize now’ to force them to synchronize at the moment. In this way we will not depend on our iPhone to be reading the SMS that we hope will gradually move into a better life.
