Our Realme mobile already has several pre-installed applications to perform many of the daily actions that we both use such as the dialer, the browser or even the system’s own Launcher. However, these apps are not always to our liking, so we will install different ones. However, the system will continue to open the first ones by default , something that luckily we can easily change.

The browser is usually one of the elements that users prefer to change before. Manufacturers have their own browsers, but it is possible that in your Realme you want to put another browser instead of Chrome, such as Opera or other of the innumerable options available. The messages application, the telephone or the Personal Assistant itself, can be modified as default applications.

Available options

In our Realme terminal we can modify the default applications, as part of managing them. The options that RealmeUI offers us to be able to modify these parameters are:

• Assistance application: set any virtual assistant by default
• Launch application: modify the default system Launcher
• SMS application : the app with which we will receive and send text messages
• Phone app: change the default app to handle calls
• Browse app: change default web browser

To be able to modify these default applications, we will have to go to Settings / Application management / Default application. Once inside we will see the options mentioned above. We will only have to click on each field to be able to our favorite app. The system will offer us all the options that we have available in terms of alternative apps. That is, if we have three browsers installed we can choose between the three, while we will not have any option if there are no alternative apps installed.

Open apps via links

Within the same menu but at the bottom, we will see an additional option called “Open links” It is an option to run applications when we click on a link specifically created for them. In other words, apps like YouTube, Spotify, our bank’s app, document managers, etc… will have permission to run when we click on a dedicated link.

We can also mark the option “instant applications”. This means that even if we do not have a specific app installed for that link, it can be opened normally in the browser and display the content, whenever possible. Otherwise we can see an error on the screen that tells us that we need to have the app installed.
