How to Connect to Wi-Fi Networks for Free with the WiFi Map App for Android

This app offers the following functionalities:

• Internet access free of charge via WiFi.
• Millions of WiFi hotspots available around the world.
• WiFi passwords for those access points.
• Smart search.
• Map navigation
• Filtering the closest available WiFi around you.

The first thing we are going to do is download WiFi Map from the Play Store from here:

Once downloaded, when we start it for the first time, it will ask us to accept the terms of use of the app.

An important consideration in addition to being able to read the privacy policy data, tell us that if you have less than 16 years to use it, we must consult with your parents or legal guardians. Once all this has been reviewed, click on I Accept and the following welcome screen will appear:

Here we are explained that with this app we are part of a social network where users share the Wi-Fi password of the public places they go to. This way you know where nearby you can connect without spending mobile data. To continue, click on Next .

Another option that he tells us is that we can download our maps before, in order to avoid that our mobile data rate suffers. The next thing he explains to us is that you need to enable the location permission so that it can show us the Wi-Fi points that we have around us.

At this moment what we are going to do is click on Enable location . The Android operating system of our smartphone will ask us if we want to enable it and we will allow it .

Finally, he tells us that there is an annual subscription with a series of improvements. In this case, what we are going to do is press the X that appears to the right of the drawing to start using WiFi Map.

The best way to test this app is to leave the house and try to find a WiFi network to connect to. In my case, since I had not previously done it to use it for the first time, I had to use mobile data to download the map of the area. Fortunately it was only a few MB.

Once the map of the WiFi zone was downloaded Map showed me that I had 86 WiFi networks near me . And on the right you have the filter icon.

It shows the closest WiFi networks, the distance you are and the connection speed you can have. These are the filtering options that WiFi Map offers us.

As you can see, it offers us three possibilities:

1. Show everything.
2. Recently online.
3. Fast WiFi.

Personally, especially at the beginning, I recommend leaving it on Show everything, which is as it comes by default. Then on the bell icon come your notifications.

Here we could add offline Regions .

You will not be able to use this option unless you have purchased the annual subscription I mentioned before. Here we would have the Social section of WiFi Map that requires an account to participate.

Now the time has come to connect to a Wi-Fi network, for which we will scroll up to see the list of available networks.

Once we have chosen ours, we head towards the point where it is located so that we can have a good signal. The closer we are, the better, because that way we will have better coverage and speed. If we click on the chosen public network, this screen will appear.

Here we have the name of the network that we have to add, its password and the possibility of communicating if it works or not. Also WiFi Map gives us the possibility to contribute by providing new networks to the community by clicking on Add WiFi .

Here we have two possibilities that it is a Public WiFi or a private WiFi .

If we choose “public” it will show us a list of nearby shops and there we will enter the password. In case of being private, a screen like the following will appear, where we must enter the WiFi password.

Finally, with WiFi Map you can both enjoy free WiFi and collaborate with the community by providing new access points. Thanks to this easy-to-use application, we can connect for free to thousands of access points throughout the country.
