The new Windows 10 20H2, the October 2020 Update , is here. This is the new update of the operating system that, leaving the big changes for later, has focused mainly on correcting bugs and debugging and optimizing the operating system. Unfortunately, Microsoft is not on a roll when it comes to updates. Even the smallest patch has put a large number of computers out of service every month. Therefore, there is no reason to be a Windows 10 beta tester, especially not with such an update. Therefore, this way you can avoid it.
Users are already receiving this update automatically through Windows 10. At the moment, this update has only been around for a few days, and, although it does bring its bugs, they are not too serious. However, the number of users that has made it to the October 2020 Update is still very small, so it would not be uncommon to see problems skyrocket in the next few days or weeks.

If we do not want to take the risk, there are several tricks that will allow us to avoid installing the new October update of Windows 10. Here we explain how to do it.
Don’t click!
The new version of Windows 10 appears on Windows Update as an optional update. At the moment, Microsoft has not started to download and install it automatically on users’ computers. Therefore, in this sense, we do not have to worry.
When we enter the Windows update tool we will see a message that will indicate that the new 20H2 is ready. From now on, updates will no longer appear with numbers such as 1909 or 2004, but will be identified with the year and H1 / H2 depending on the update.

If we don’t click on the “Download and install” button we have no problem. We can continue to search and download patches for our current version of Windows 10 without having to install this new version of Windows.
Pause updates to 20H2 in Windows 10 Pro
If we have Windows 10 Pro installed on the PC, we can pause the updates without problems to prevent it from installing. To do this, we simply have to enter the advanced options of Windows Update, and choose the date until which we want to delay these updates. Since 1909, Microsoft only lets us delay them for a maximum of 35 days.

Another way to stop upgrading to new versions from Windows 10 Pro is to do it through group policy. In that case, what we have to do is type in the search bar “gpedit.msc”, and there go to the section “Administrative templates> Windows Components> Windows Update> Windows Update for companies. Here, we will double click on “Select the target feature update version.” In the new window that will appear, we enable this directive, and we write the version we want to stay in, for example, in 1909 or 2004.

Ready. Now Windows will be forced to stay in this version, and will not try to update our PC to a newer version. When we want to update to 20H2, or to future versions, we simply deactivate this policy and we will receive the new version without problem.
